The ideas as well worked like a fantastic way to fully grasp that other people online have a similar fervor similar to my personal own to learn a good deal more with respect to this issue. Certainly there are numerous more pleasant moments in the future for many who looked over your blog.

  96. Hi Elizabeth,

I hear what you’re saying. I’ve been told I’m the “expert” in blogging and building relationships. Heck they go hand in hand and building relationships come naturally to me.

I’m a people person and I can talk to anyone anywhere anytime. I’ll walk up to a stranger and start a conversation, I’m not shy. I just love people, I love learning about them, I love hearing what they love, I just love interacting so for me this all comes naturally. I find it hard that others don’t have a clue how to start a conversation or for that matter they don’t start one at all. Huh, do you really think you’ll build a following that way!

Okay, I don’t mean to be hard on people and I’m always eager to help them learn.

It’s nice to meet someone else who seems to have a lot of the same people skills so Elizabeth, it’s nice to meet ya.

Thanks for sharing this and enjoy your weekend with the kids. I’m sure you guys will have a great time.

  97. Every time I learn something new in the tech world, the kids say, “Wow, mom. You are getting as good as grandma!” In our family the one that had the time, took the time; and we are all grateful that my mom paved the way to say age makes NO difference with technology. In global family living, it’s just the way we do family these days. Thank you so much for the encouragement!

    • Grandma’s, I love hearing this. The first time my mom updated her Facebook with her Iphone the first thing I thought was how did she even know how to do that? Thanks for stopping in.~elizabeth

  98. Great tips. I understand how many people would want to get as many followers as quickly as possible and it is tempting to go follow the advice of those who claim you can get you 10,000 followers. Everyone I’ve talked to who has tried that regretted it because all those followers do nothing for you. Its like paying for a bus load of little league players to come to your knitting store.

    Thanks for the post,

  99. Great post Elizabeth…

I admit, I was fooled a few times myself… when someone with a huge follower count, followed me… I was flattered and followed back. But then, I became curious… “Why” would they follow little old me?

By some great good fortune, I was also connected with a number of “real” experts; (some in real life and some virtually) and over the last few months, have learned from them, how to discern the fakers.

I think your message is very important. These “fakers” are doing damage to the professionals… I now pay very careful attention and “vet” any new followers for authenticity before following back. Another place to vet them is

    Cheers, Maggie

    • I have learned a bit more, the fine act of keeping my following/followers aka community as real as I can. Thanks so much for stopping in and taking time to comment Maggie. I appreciate it. Elizabeth

  100. Sorry, don’t know how to link w/in the comments …meant to refer to fakers.statuspeople.com

  101. Great article, Elizabeth! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I have been wondering how the lists worked. Are we able to add a person to more than 1 list?

    • Yes, You can add a person to multiple lists. If you are wanting to keep up with a person daily, rather than multiple list placement perhaps drop them into a list you will visit more often. Elizabeth Traub

  102. This is terrific. The only way to build a following is by doing the work. Just like relationships in real life, social media relationships are formed and strengthened over time with engagement! :-)

    • New business owners seem to think marketing is a numbers game and nothing more. Unfortunately they fail to realize there has to be a level of one-on-one between customer and business before a customer will buy, and the “numbers game” has nothing to do with it.

Years ago there were a lot of websites promising freebies if you joined their list. Unfortunately, this created a list of freebie seekers that wanted nothing to do with buying a product. The amount of time and effort going into this was maddening, because the return rate was so incredibly low. Although a carefully built list over time was (and is) a gold mine.

Cheval does have a point about the “microwave world”. (I had a high school teacher who called us the “microwave generation” hehe) We want our information and success NOW. The simple fact is, a business must learn to develop long-term public relationships for long-term success.

      • Kara, Thanks so much for a very though provoking comment. YOU get it and for that reason we need more people like you pushing the nature and value of Social Media. Thank you, Elizabeth

  103. What a remarkable post. So very true – It’s so sad but companies truly do hand over their hearts to Social Media Consultants who often break them. Thank you for this evenly weighted shining of the light on this situation. I still do a little social media consulting, but only what I can handle and DO WELL to promote my clients. It’s incredibly hard work when done right and the gratitude of the client is worth its weight in KLOUT!

    • Cheval John says:

Thank you for this post. What’s interesting is the fact that on twitter, they have these people that say that you can have so many followers if you pay some sort of fee. I think that these people don’t know how to develop a relationship to begin with and that is why they do it.

That what you have in this “microwave” type of world these days.

  104. Diane Najm says:

I love your video! You are awesome and so great to set example of not fearing anything ~Just do it!!! You are dynamic and everyone would be so inspired after hearing you!!!

  105. Cheval John says:

I honestly believe that these people don’t know how to be real and develop a relationship with the other. That is what you expect in a now “microwave” world.

  106. It’s great that you are getting ideas from this article as well as from our argument made at this place.

  107. John Wanat says:

Hi Elizabeth, I’ve recently written my first book. A self-help/auto-biography. The book’s
called, “Nursing Homes – The Real Deal.” Saw u on Twitter, and think I may call you for a
consultation. I hired Xlibris Publishing to help promote my book, and I’m planning to promote this book myself. Book’s in the production stage now. Hope to speak with you soon. :)

  108. John Wanat says:

Hello Elizabeth, We need to talk. I’m hoping to call you soon, so I can get your thoughts,
regarding my book, which is currently in production. I see you on Twitter sometimes. Well,
enjoy your weekend Elizabeth, and happy Mother’s Day tomorrow.

  109. I first created a Facebook account so that I could keep in touch with my family who live in Hawaii where I come from. (I live in Iowa) Then the trend started where people were connecting business-wise so that is also what I do, but like you said, anymore who has time to outwardly connect with our hundreds of friends? It’s crazy! I try to go to my friends’ pages every once in awhile to “connect”. For now I make it a habit to skim thru my News Feed a few minutes each time I go to Facebook. That way I can like and comment on different friends’ activities and feel like I’m “in touch”.

    • This is such a wonderful time we live to be able to connect. Even those few minutes of skimming is allowing you to look in on someone that otherwise you would not have been able to. Thanks for stopping by.

  110. Kat Bultman says:

    Great Post! Very informational!

  111. zquiet says:

After going over a handful of the articles on your site,
I honestly like your way of blogging. I book marked it to my bookmark website list
and will be checking back in the near future. Take a look at my website as well
and tell me what you think.

  112. Thank you for these tips! I am fairly new at working at home and with summer in full swing I’ve found expectations to be important. I tell my kids at dinner what my work plans are for the following day. Then, in the morning I give them a gentle reminder. This has been very helpful! I also have to set strong boundaries so I’m not just sitting at my desk playing on FaceBook. The kids still need my undivided attention as often as possible.

    • Sonya, I could not agree more. When we first take care of our kids, the work space and time come much easier. Just today, a planned day in my office, yielded a few hours of water play with my boys. We were all better for it and my ability to focus on work enhanced. Thanks for stopping in and reading. Visit often. Elizabeth

  114. Elizabeth Traub says:

Hi Elizabeth. My name is Elizabeth Traub (really, it’s on my birth certificate). I received a text message this morning from a family member asking me why I did not tell her that I would be speaking at the Women’s Conference coming up in Lake Charles, LA. After a bit of research, I found you. I am hoping to meet you when you visit us here in Lake Charles. I know that this does not have anything to do with consulting, but given the rarity of our name, especially here in Louisiana, I thought it would be nice to meet.

  115. Greg Gulliford says:

Great post Elizabeth. Love The Transparency!!

  116. Hi, Elizabeth. My biggest challenge is explaining to my 5 year old that even though I am home, I have to work. Choosing between work and her should be easy, she should win every time. But the work has to get done. Thanks for the article. It reminds me I’m not the only one experiencing this and also that it can be done!

    • Kasie, Thanks so much for sharing. I have found that taking those little bits of time with the kids fuels them and me for me intentional time in my work. Tis a journey we work at home mama’s share. Blessings, Elizabeth

  117. fstanfield says:

    Hi Elizabeth,

I love this post. I knew there was a way to lift Facebook up and you’ve managed to do just that. I keep up with my daughter, my relatives, my friends (and enemies) on Facebook. I purchased Facebook stock. The rule is to invest in things you like and understand. I think I’ve done the right thing. :)

    Take care,
    Frantastically Fran

  118. Loved hearing your story! Bravo and congrats on the Idol visit! Robert’s a great guy and offers a lot of help!!

  119. So excited to be a part of this with you! See you soon,

    Happy Kids, Inc

  120. Jane M. says:

Last years judges (Nikki, Mariah and Randy) were awful. The only good one was Keith. It’s unfortunate because the talent of the top 11 was extraordinary but overshadowed by the bickering judges. I like the group of Keith, Jennifer and Harry this season. I hope that viewers will return.

  121. Love it! This message is so important to take into the work we do here for clients. Try to remember what you love about the social space you are on and what brought you there as a person. Now…..don’t ruin it by contributing to what drives people away. :)

  122. Reblogged this on Andy Kaufman's Kavalkade Krew Featuring The Wandering Poet and commented:
This post addresses many of the concerns about “fake followers” that both Conrad of the @winewankers and I have.

I check my fake followers using apps and my own eyes, as Elizabeth has indcated. Check links, looks for valuable content and actual interaction with other people. If you see none, it’s probably fake.
Use your best judgement however, as several “fake follower” apps have a bias against low follower twitter accounts. And I have found many of those to be @wordpress bloggers who only use Twitter to tweet their blog posts. And they are not acutally “fake”.

  123. Reblogged this on Septian Online.

  124. Kate says:

I could not agree more – his honesty and integrity are refreshing and most welcome. Love Harry – he is the only reason I am watching Idol this year.

  125. Nancy Sayer says:

very well written article on a highly intelligent, gifted man!! thank you for having the insight to see Harry for the person he really is…husband, Dad, son, and a hugely talented artist. The fact that he is on Idol, well, maybe I will watch it one of these days again. Stopped watching because of the drama, the fakeness, and the guarantee that just somebody with popularity, and not necessarily the talent, wins. Good Luck to all of you, and to Harry!!

    • Nancy, Thanks for reading. I had stopped watching in the past few years as well. The drama has been replaced with witty and intelligent fun. I hope you will take a look back into the show. #TheLoveOfHarry Elizabeth

  126. Denise says:

He is like a breath of fresh air! He has the best interests of the contestants at heart and not just fame and fortune governing his thoughts and critiques. What he says is so heartfelt, I look forward to hearing his interpretations of their performances! This is not to criticize Keith or Jennifer, they do a great job, as well. Enjoying this season so much!

    • I completely he agree. Harry truly rounds out that judging table. Let’s face it, there will only be one Idol at the end of the season and if Harry could give all the others a piece of wisdom to take on their personal music journey’s he has given back more than what these contestants had before they stepped onto that American Idol stage. Thanks for reading. #TheLoveOfHarry Elizabeth

  127. I’ve loved Harry from the moment I heard him in “When Harry Met Sally”, when he sang “It Had To Be You” on a music video at the end of the film. That’s a long time, and my love of Harry has not diminished. He made me melt in “Hope Floats.” I saw him in concert the year he released his latest Christmas CD, in NYC, and it was an awesome experience. I danced along with him and Lucien Barbarin while they sang New Orleans jazz on his PBS-televised “Harry On Broadway” concert. I went to Broadway to see him in “On A Clear Day You Can See Forever.” I took my kids to see “Dolphin Tale”. I love this man!

It’s only been in the past few years, as I’ve seen him on The Ellen Show, that I’ve learned how funny he is, in addition to being a talented musician with a dreamy voice. I saw how humble and grounded and polite he is when he interviewed with Piers Morgan. I tuned in to Idol for the first time to watch him mentor last year, and this is the first season I’ve watched from start to finish – because of Harry. He has not disappointed. It’s been a real treat to see him twice a week, let me tell you! And do you notice that he pulls out JLo’s chair for her every week?

    • Yes, he does pull out JLO’s chair. I have noticed. I loved reading this. It’s like we are chatting about a dear friend. There is one YouTube video where he sings with his daughter and my heart melted. He truly is a leading example on American Idol. Thanks so much for sharing your story. I loved reading it. #TheLoveOfHarry Elizabeth

I’ve been in love with Harry since I was a wee lass of 15 (way back in 19mumblemumble) and have been lucky enough to see him live multiple times. I love his music, but I also love who he is as a person. He is goofy and fun, but he can be serious when necessary. Perhaps most importantly, you never doubt that he loves Jill and their daughters.

    • When all the #IdolTweethearts were in a meeting with Harry, someone asked about his family and wife. He held up his ring finger wrapped his other hand around his wedding ring and said, “this is the most important relationship I have.” And then honored his wife. It was beautiful and I teared up, a little. I too, and “19Mumblemumble” when I first heard of Harry. I loved that. ;-) #TheLoveOfHarry Elizabeth

Very nicely put. I feel the same way. Harry has made all the difference in American Idol this year. I loved his performance last week. Even my teenage and young adult music minded kids thought it was the most awesome thing they had ever seen. I was so mad when I saw
the negative comments of Facebook. Just goes to prove that the average American does not know real talent and shouldn’t be deciding who should be the next American Idol.

  130. Tracey Heck says:

I totally agree with all that you’ve said. Harry Connick is the ultimate man. A man that you would want to be your friend, lover, husband, brother, father or mentor. I have seen him on many talk shows, and every time I’ve said, “He is the nicest man. I would love to have him as a friend.” He is kind, honest, caring, and funny. There are very few celebrities that have the honest charm that this man possesses. There is probably nothing that he cannot do. He has great comedic timing, leading man good looks, immense, immense musical talent, a fabulous voice, and the heart and soul to write songs that mean something. I am so pleased that the young generation is finally going to be able to see what a quality man and musician Harry Connick truly is, and it is so wonderful to see someone be honest and frank with the singers of tomorrow. I hope that all of the contestants see what a gift they possess in having Harry.

    • You are exactly correct. American Idol has made a great choice in him. Americans are valuing what Harry brings. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. #TheLoveOfHarry Elizabeth

  131. I look forward each week for Harry’s feedback.. He is like a breath of fresh air for Idol..

  132. Love it! I particularly like the point about not seeing enough behind the scenes; America is not getting the full story and they should!

First time I read this, and I agree 100% . He is an amazing man, and I love how he can be so honest without being harsh. I love the way he interacts with the contestants. American Idol has it dead on spot with the trio of judges. Every week they bring on the professional side of judging and the heart side of having fun together. Absolutely Amazing.

  138. I’m certainly not close enough to shop there, Elizabeth, but I LOVE shops like this!

Tell her if she can get Wallaby’s Organic yogurt, it’s to die for. (Key Lime in their Australian style is my fave and their Greek Yogurt vanilla bean is a must).

Since this is in your neck of the woods–at least it’s west coast–she may already know about: http://www.mountainroseherbs.com I know they sell wholesale. It’s where I get many of my herbs and spices and all kinds of cool stuff and have for years.

Great article, my west coast friend! :)

    • Vickie, Thanks so much for reading. I will pass this along. There has been such a need for something like this, and I want to support all her efforts to bring such a nice market in our small neck of the woods. ~elizabeth
