Tweener Fun

This room makes me smile.  Thus young tweener had a lot of input on what she wanted in this room. She also is a collector of ALOT of stuff she did not want to part with.  We only changed the accessories, added a few furniture pieces, painted and got to work on how to store her stuff.

For some this may seem a bit cluttered and overdone.  For this Tweener it just how she likes it.  On her new dresser we decked out each knob with a different color.  On the top she has storage for jewelry and collectable.  Her funky chair holds her stuffed animals and special blankets from her past. We were able to use a tall bookcase to hold every special book ever read.  Tweeners are classified as those coming out of being a child and not yet making the passage into being a teenager.  There is that mix of the younger past and bringing in an older look that often need to be worked into a Tweener’s room.

It was not easy to find the perfect lamp so we embellished our own.  I found a polka dot shade and attached a little bling-bling- crystals on the bottom part of the shade.  I then found a basic base I could paint to match the shade.  The color was spot on with the wall color we chose.

This custom made mirror was this Tweeners dream. “Please mom can we have a mirror made?”  My carpenter was able to take my basic drawing, free handed, and cut and paint.  Notice the colorful lamp and all her stuff.

Yes, that is a disco ball in the upper center-left. Shiny blue bedding with accent pillows. I loved sitting with this Tweener, all the fabric accents and she chose how she wanted her pillows to look, and which fabrics would go where.

The finishing touch was finding an area rug that tied in all the colors.  Lot going on in this room.  Handing over some of the decisions to this age group give a girl confidence in her decision.  She has the room of her dreams and I have a new young friend.
