Family Counts As Real Business

Today I received a request for a painted canvas art piece. I was excited and thankful for this family member. The reality is, “Family Counts As Real Business”. Am I right? I think our family’s are our biggest critics. I know I feel less likely to show pieces to family members because they are free to express their opinions. I love having both family and friends buying from me. It makes it personal and I get to see and visit my art when in their homes. And I actually do appreciate the opinions, criticisms and conversations around my painted pieces.

This piece will go above a king size bed in a master bedroom. Each piece I paint comes with some thought and inspiration. I was alone most of the day while Gordon was out playing golf. Still recovering from surgery. (No worries it was elective and I am well and good.) I was thinking how I am not fond of purple hues when painting. Yet the flowers in the garden I planted a few months back were hues of purple and stunning. I was out watering the plants, the sunny skies, the green leaves and these hues just made me feel so at peace with the world. I was talking to myself, to God and thankful for our children, good health and the place in life I am in and sharing with Gordon. I opened up my journal and wrote about it. Then I painted this piece. I have painted ALOT in the past few weeks. When I say ALOT I mean over 40 pieces. They are scattered on counters, tables and shelves as I lay out my plan for this painting business called, “Art You Love”. I am working on rebranding my business. Then today, Gordon picks up this piece and says, “I want this for my room in Lake Oswego”. He could not have known the thought process that went into this piece. Yet of the scatterings he chose this. A piece that was inspired by the gardens and our family.

Family counts as real business. Gordon has beautiful homes with beautiful art pieces. He has a keen eye for design. Yesterday he and I toured some model homes. When we returned back to his home I told him what a great eye for design he has. Walking through these beautifully designed home with the pieces of art, furniture and design he, for himself, has created the same kinds of spaces. And then he orders this piece and my heart leaps.

As of this posting my sales have been with family and friends. You matter and you count and your opinions are well received. Thank you for reading, for your interest and for your support in Art You Love.
