My Blue Heart

When I am mixing colors and trying to find new hues and gradations of the rainbow I will often come up with unique and unusual pieces. I will take those pieces and put them aside and note the color combination for future reference. Not all paint colors come straight out of a bottle. I mix, match, take notes and find new hues to play with.

A few weeks ago I was playing with blues and some pink accents. Trying to create a really soft hue. I made a lot of mistakes and wasted a lot of paint. I factor that into the expense of being an artist. Playing with paints and colors. It’s my playground.

When I created this particular piece, “My Blue Heart”, I loved the blues. I loved the cells. I loved how the paints came together. While it was still wet I put a heart on it. Then I was mad that I did it because I basically ruined this piece and tossed it aside.

I found my blue heart yesterday in a pile of canvases that are pretty much damaged goods. When I looked at it I thought this is my heart today. “My Blue Heart”. I love it. It’s interesting how one day something could look like it should be burned in the burn pile and the next day you’re in love with it.

My heart is sometimes is blue. We relate blue to sad but really you look up at the sky the sky is blue. The sky is certainly not sad. “My Blue Heart” is really just about that peaceful horizon of when the sky is blue, the ocean reflecting the blue sky. Sobering comforts of blue. “My Blue Heart”.
