This past week I took my favorite colors and each day added another colored layer. One thing a finished piece never shows is the mistakes that have been covered. That is what is brilliant with paint. You can cover a multitude of mistakes.

I get this idea of what I want to paint in my head and what I want the finished piece to look like. On this piece I was exploring the freedom I have with a sponge, a brush and a paper towel. I could see these colors layed out in loose shapes. I believe this is a gift that made me a successful interior designer. The ability to see the finished piece in my mind. As I was laying out a design for my clients I could always see the finished room in my head and be excited for what I could see and they could not. My clients trusted me with the process from start to finish.

Gordon was bbq’ing on my last day of painting this piece. As I was finishing up I thought it would be cool if briquettes were colored. When I stood back at the final stroke. I giggled out loud. I giggled over the name this piece would take on. I thought of calling it, “Colored Briquettes” but I actually just love the one word. The rest is easy to figure out.
