It’s not very often I have a wide open block of time in my day. I committ hours to working on both my art and marketing business daily. I take breaks for exercise, chatting with friends, and dilly dallying here and there. On this particular day my day was freed up. Four solid hours of nothing planned . What shall I do? I called a couple of friends for a spontaneous hike. The weather was beautiful. No takers. I called on my son for a spontaneous easy breezy bike ride. He decided to go to summer school at the local community college and needed to study.
Laundry? Cleaning? Those were also options. How about binge watching something on TV? No way. I waltzed right into my art studio, grabbed a canvas, paints, paintbrushes and started at it. Typically when I am painting it starts with pencil etchings. It starts with a complete thought process and plans leading my thoughts, my emotions, my brush strokes and my colors of the day. All that seems to inspire me. On this day I had none of this. I just started with swooping brush strokes.
I wish I had a deep emotional process and story to tell. This is completely, “Spontaneous.” I put the sheen and shine on and let it sit for a few days and when I returned to it I was so surprised. Paint tends to dry darker and I am thrilled with how it turned out. I know that this piece will solve a design problem somewhere in the world. Maybe yours.
As of late I am working on NOT revisiting a painting I love. Revisiting typically involves more paint, more layers of creativity and more times than I care to share of an absolute muddy colored mess. Not this day. Enjoy this piece.
