Keeping Up With Your Business

I literally just spent the last week redesigning my website. A website that I have had for almost 15 years. My website is not active and I rarely direct people here. It has been more like my online business card. Someone is considering hiring me or wants to know more about what I do they come here. When I think I have some important thoughts, practices or ideas I write and share.

What do you do that causes you to prosper? What is your vision, your view and ideas and mission? I am still coming alongside companies to assist where the need is and helping these companies answer these questions. However I am making my hobby of painting more relevant. And now in the second half of my life I had to ask myself these questions.

During my retail store ownership days I painted ALOT. It was therapeutic and quiet. It gave me the space and time to think through my client’s strategies, their marketing, their branding. It was also a way to occupy my children while I made dinner or had to make calls with clients. Set them up with a paintbox of water colors and they would create. Or they sat alongside me as I painted. I could easily monetize my painting by painting in colors hues that worked into my showroom displays. I never thought of myself as an artist. My canvas’s would sell and leave a space on the wall and I would paint more. Painting canvas’s turned into painting furniture. My furniture manufactures loved me. In 27 years of selling furniture I never returned a dinged, cracked or damaged piece. I simply asked for a discount on the damaged piece, painted some fun kid-like design and sold it.

As the pandemic has changed so much about how we do business it was time to roll out the paints. Literally rolling out as I have a rolling caddy that holds all my supplies. Then while here in Palm Desert I duplicated my supplies here, and set up a nice little art studio to continue with my love of painting.

Colors have always inspired me. Maybe that is why I had to take that passion into interior design. I never intended to be an interior designer. I opened an showroom that people loved. Then my vendors were hiring me to assist with their marketing & branding. Then stores were hiring me to help with their showrooms. And as business had ebbed and flowed one thing that I can still do and love is paint.

When the calls come in for potential clients I am still assisting as needed. I just got off a call this morning with a company that has invited me to be on their due diligence team for a product I am very excited about. After the call I was inspired to write this blog surrounded by paint and canvases and making a mess with color as I think through the conversation with their CEO. You see, painting takes the conversation and breaks it down. Replaying the words and enthusiasm of building something new within a company. The thoughts begin to pour as each layer of paint is poured. I keep pen and paper close as ideas for the company begin to form. The reality in my painting is thinking. Thinking helps me brainstorm ideas for companies and what can help their brand.

I am still keeping up with YOUR business. I am still working as a consultant, but now focusing my energy in painting and selling my art. The artist in me has always been here. I would love to sell you a piece of my heart, my thoughts, and a beautiful piece for your home.

Check here weekly as I share a new piece for sale. You never know what may make your heart leap.

Have a wonderful day. Elizabeth
