Ever wonder what inspires an artist and how they start a piece of work? I was sitting in my small little art studio in Palm Desert, CA looking at these two wooden figures I had painted.
Typically what happens is if I’m in my art studio and I get a phone call I’ll take the call and then if I have leftover paint on my pallet or new paints I want to mix I’ll find something to paint. In this case it was these wooden figures.
I will also use new mixed paints to paint rocks because something about keeping my hands and my mind busy is very therapeutic.

What really came of this color palette is the inspiration that started with painting wooden character’s and rocks and loving these colors together. A little bit more on the rocks and then it hit me what I wanted to paint.

I mean really look at how these colors look together. They make me smile. Painting rocks costs nothing. To work out different color palettes and bring colors together breathes life into my next painting. The upside of this is when I am at art shows I will put the rocks out and they will sell. I used to work out colors on a canvas which gets costly. So where did we go with these colors you ask?

I absolutely love how this turned out. Layer upon layer with these metallic acrylic colors. I’m not sure if it’ll be a horizontal or a vertical. I may just sign the back and let the buyer decide. I will present this piece in a small show next Saturday in Palm Springs,CA.
That was not all. These colors inspired me so much that after starting this piece and while I waited for layers of paint to dry I started a second piece. And here’s where that landed.

I have yet to name either of these pieces. And they will be the centerpiece of my display next week. I love that they represent the colors of the desert and I hope that some buyers will come along and love them as much as I do.
Is very difficult as an artist to let go of originals. I will take pictures of these pieces this week. They will go up on my website (<–link ) that sells prints and canvases and all kinds of fun stuff. If you’ve never visited there pop over there and see what’s going on.
Now you have a glimpse of how it starts. Thank you so much for reading.
Have a wonderful day
Elizabeth
