The Darling Boutique

You may not be surprised to learn that I was quite the crafty gal during my childhood, youth, college years and through out my entire life. I won my first art contest in 5th grade which earned me an afternoon in the principals office eating sweet rolls and soda. I made all my own note-cards, Christmas cards, and sewed all my linens for my freshman college dorm room.  In my first apartment on Capital Hill in Seattle, WA I sewed pillows, place-mats, and napkins to match the decor. Often getting oohs and ahs from friends and family.  That decorating bug launched my first retail store Skip To My Room. Twenty years later I am still playing in this side hobby business.  Inside there is still that young girl who loves to paint, and heat up the hot glue gun.

Last weekend I met a young woman that reminded me of the young Elizabeth.  Crafty, with determination to turn that passion of all things creative into a business. On her wall she had these three signs hanging. Which ever entrepreneur knows is exactly what it takes to start your own business. Be BRAVE, BELIEVE & DREAM!!!

Chatting with her I leaned of  her hobby and love for pretty, fun and funky things in her own little shop.  I wanted to sit with her for hours and be 25 all over again, and sharing about opening my first store.  Instead  I asked her many questions about her passions for her little shop.  I asked her about what she was making, and asked if I could take pictures and write about her. I can only imagine, twenty-five years ago, how much fun I would have had blogging about my business, pinteresting pictures and sharing all over social media my daily experiences of handmade, fun.

Meet the lovely creative and inspirational Rachel McAllister.  She is twenty-six years old and opened “The Darling Boutique” last June, 2014 in Hood River, OR. She has creatively maximized every little nook and cranny of her shop with a mixture of new & used vintage, funky and sassy creative accents.  There is something for everyone in this “darling” little shop. She mixes up her own creations, brand new, vintage finds, and local artisans. You can connect on Facebook and look at more photos. However I took the liberty to take a few pictures of Rachel’s darling displays.  In support of “The Darling Boutique” I ask that you invest some time and some money to support this darling business in the Columbia Gorge.  Here is her contact information.
