I recently had knee surgery. I wish I had an exciting story to share about how I tore my meniscus and managed a stress fracture on my tibia. It was just a day in the life of playing golf. The grass was wet, I had new shoes that weren’t very grippy, and well the rest is history.

The day after I had surgery I got out my acrylics and started painting away all hopped up on pain meds. I named this piece, “Floating Happy” as I pretty much felt like I was floating with the meds inside of me. I was shocked that they actually gave me 18 days worth of narcotics. I only used one day and that was it. Synthetic happy is not my cup of tea. However it did produce a lovely piece of art. Don’t you agree?

This piece takes me back to my early twenties when I used to paint in this abstract expressionistic way. It reminds me of that young girl trying to find her place in the art world and not knowing how to dip her toes into galleries. Instead I would paint lots of inventory. About the time November rolled around I would host gift events in my home. I would sell the things that I painted, I had sewn, and other crafty things that I made. All of my art would sell. Which built confidence that I was actually an artist.

By nature I am a happy person. I started practicing waking up happy with my second child. I was 23 years old and decided with two children, no matter if I stayed up late, I would always choose to wake up happy. Floating through each day with a genuine joy and happiness that I believe only comes from God. Because when you’re a mom some days are really hard and there has to be some kind of supernatural intervention that keeps you going.
“Floating Happy”is simply inspired by being a little loopy, extra happy, and the use of pain meds. My husband, who is naturally happy absolutely loved this and he also goes through each day as one of the happiest people I know. So I think the name fits the piece.

With Love
