What is your favorite form of physical exercise?
I grew up in a time when walking was everything. Today we call it exercise.

I was at dinner last night with my mom, sister and two of my boys. One of the boys, now 22 years old, was sharing how, “Rain or shine mom took us on walks everyday.” That was and is my favorite form of exercise.
Raising five kids, four of which are boys, walking was also a gentle form of discipline. If one of the kids was having a moment and needed a break they were instructed to take a 15 minute walk and to take the dog with them. No one ever complained about those thoughtful walks. Often I was asking a few questions that they could think about while on that solo walk. Secretly I knew that walking off frustrations was the best remedy.
It was a habit that after dinner we put on our rain gear and took walks. Living in Oregon with lots of rain and the rain never hindered our walks. When my husband and I were first dating he asked. “Do you all always go on walks after dinner?” Most evenings, yes.

What rhymes with walking? Talking. If you truly want to learn the heart of a person go on walks. I love walking with my husband. We are both retired and these walks mean the world to me. Chatting and hearing the things important to him. Catching up with my kids on our one on one walks now that they are all grown opens up wonderful conversations. Last week three of my boys came for dinner. (Pictured above) After dinner we went on a walk, discussing politics, politicians and learning their hearts on the issues important to them.
Walking is my favorite form of exercise. Want to spend time with me? Let’s take a walk.
Have a wonderful day and a wonderful walk, Elizabeth ❤️
