Savvy Social Tip

You may have noticed I have started making reference in social media to my new hashtag #savvysocialtips .  It’s no secret that I am a social gal. In real time, who is the first person to show up, greet and meet?  Who is the last one to help clean up?  Who sees a stranger off in the corner and wants to go over and learn their story?  Whether I am behind the scenes with jeans and a t-shirt setting up or cleaning up, or front and center with my fancy duds I am a social gal. I promise you I am not the person who jumps into a conversation uninvited.

What I did jump into is learning how to navigate Social Media. I am going to be honest I have bumbled my way through the technical parts of learning.  Enlisting those who have gone before me to teach the  technical parts. These past few months I have heard a lot of…

“Wow, Elizabeth you rock Social Media.”

“There is no way you are new to Social Media, you are awesome.”

“Elizabeth can you teach me how to build my Social Media skills?”

I could go on, but I am already sounding a bit of a self-promoting expert.  Alas here lies the truth. Never in any business I have stepped into have I claimed to be an expert.  Business, no matter what kind of business you are in, requires a constant path of learning.  If learning is constant  then being an “expert” is not EVER within reach.  Today I am an expert in Pinterest and tomorrow they add a new tool function I must learn. Thus my “expert” status expired and I did not even know it.  Today I mastered my golf swing, and tomorrow I step onto a new golf course.

I realize I am bringing the word “expert” into this post with a twist of new meaning.  I do in fact know many people I would call out as an “expert” in the business’s they are in.   In Social Media I am not an expert.  Can I get you set up and teach you how to overcome your marketing challenges through Social Media? Yes I can do that.  It is only through my real time and real life experiences that I can do what I do in real time and take it to online.  When others tell me I am rocking Social Media I cringe a little. I think of the technical parts I am mastering. All of us “experts” cringe just a little as there is always change around the next corner.   I  will never forget the first time a person asked me to “DM” them on Twitter. I had to google that. “Oh you mean you’d like to have a private conversation with me, or pass along that information.”  Okay I get it. One more bit of technical info I needed to know.

It was not hard to learn the “social” part of Social Media.  I am in the process of raising five kids.  I have employed 100’s of people. Teaching both my family and employees the etiquette of being social. I do believe that being social in real time is what makes my online experiences so much more rewarding.  Taking what I know in real time and now making a #hashtag to help others online. If ever you have a question be sure to ask.

“In real time it costs nothing to be a friend.  It shouldn’t online either. #savvysocialtip”
